Tony Beal Ltd, has a long and established history of manufacturing Tension Curtains for both new and renovated vehicles. Due to the resources available to the company, we are able to supply a total package including:
- Measuring
- Manufacturing & Repair of tension curtains
- Vehicle Modification
- Servicing / Repair of vehicle (including pelmets, roofs, tensioners, tracking)
- Design of tension curtains
- Fitting of tension curtains
Now, due to partnership with ADS Visual, we can include in this package a full integrated livery service ,including the design and manufacture of vehicle decals, and with the latest technology available, the digital printing of the tension curtains themselves.
All of this now means that the customer can free valuable time to concentrate on other areas, whilst leaving ourselves to handle all the requirements of his company.
In order to withstand the daily stresses of road haulage, tension curtains need to be constructed and manufactured to a high quality. We pride ourselves on both the quality control exercised throughout the manufacture and fitting of the curtains, and our commitment to customer service.
There are now a wide variety of styles of tension curtains, the most popular of which are as follows.
- Standard Construction
- Open pocketed
- Anti-Vandal
- Insulated
- Livestock (poultry) carrier
- Rail / Sea / Container Freight
Standard Construction
The most common type of tension curtain available is a single skin 2 x 2 panama material (see technical spec for more details). The curtain is manufactured with a pvc coated webbing welded onto the inside of the curtain, with horizontal bands at the buckle line, and at the runner line, at the top. Vertical bands are also welded from buckle line to roller, at 600mm centres. The curtains are completed with reinforced pockets, and double thickness 200m bottom hem. Buckles and runners are fitted to complement the vehicle and the customers preferences. Naturally, as most tension curtains are made to order any alterations can be made, such as extra horizontal webbing bands, and moving vertical bands to suit particular spaces on the required vehicle. All welds are carried out using a high frequency welding machine, and no welding is carried out by hot air, to ensure longevity.
Open Pocketted
This style of tension curtain is increasingly common for general haulage, and although more expensive, it does give a greater strength of curtain, as a high tenacity, low stretch polyester webbing is fixed into a pocket, connecting the buckle to the top roller. This webbing is free moving form the outer skin, and as such absorbs a greater amount of any unforeseen stress placed upon the curtain.
Anti-Vandal
As crime is a common problem in today's world in both theft and vandalism, so we have taken steps to help firms protect their property. We have developed tension curtains that to the untrained eye look a standard set of tension curtains, however, when the outer skin is pieced, it is obvious that the curtains are constructed with a sandwich layer. The outer skin is the standard 2 x 2 weave panama curtain fabric (see technical spec for more details), whilst the inner skin is a lighter 1 x 1 weave material, with a weight of 650grammes per sq. metre. In the middle, is a stainless steel woven wire mesh, which proves impossible for a casual thief or vandal to overcome. Any damage can be simply repaired by our experienced service team, without any indication of previous problems. Dependent on the customers wishes, we usually manufacture these curtains with the woven mesh covering the first 1.2m in height of the curtains. This prevents any interference from ground level, without impairing the flexibility of the curtains.
Insulated
These are constructed from two skins of fabric sandwiching the insulation material. The outer skin is the standard 2 x 2 weave panama curtain fabric (see technical spec for more details), whilst the inner skin is a lighter 1 x 1 weave material, usually in white, with a weight of 650grammes per sq. metre. The insulation material is an 8mm thick double layer of polyethylene air bubble sheet, laminated on both sides with an aluminium foil, which has the effect of reflecting both heat and cold. On a side curtain, this means reflecting the exterior heat away, which is essential on a hot sunny day, whilst reflecting the cold back into the vehicle body itself. This method of insulation gives excellent results which are shown in the fact that it has a thermal resistance R value of 1.32 sq m k/w and a thermal transmittance U value of 0.46w/sqm°C. It's weight is 350grammes per sq. m, which combined with it's flexibility, makes it ideal for use within curtain sided vehicles.
Our own method of insulated curtain construction is geared towards maximising the areas of insulation, and therefore includes the areas where the vertical reinforcement webbings are fitted. Externally the range of fittings are identical to our standard dry freight curtains, including our vast colour range, although white fabric is preferred as it provided the best insulation performance.
Livestock (poultry) carrier
As any livestock carrier knows, legislation is very strict as regards the condition of any animal or bird, carried by road transport. With this in mind, we have manufactured a tension curtain, made from a combination of panama pvc fabric, and a high tenacity durable pvc dipped mesh netting. In some cases, the netting can account for up to 80% of the curtain, giving total breathability for the contents of the vehicle. Alternatively, if the product is being carried at specific set heights, then the percentage of breathable dipped mesh can be approx 30%. Our sales staff are happy to discuss any enquiries, and to give advise as to the construction of the curtains for individual requirements.
Rail / Sea / Container Freight
More and more systems are now operating using a road / rail or road / sea combination. Usually, these containers, are versatile and can be transportable by a number of methods. They are usually subject to the same parameters, as conventional tension curtained vehicles, and as such, we can provide a repair and renovation service, in partnership with the design and manufacture of curtains from conception for such containers. It is usual for areas of abrasion to be treated as a priority with these curtains, and also, the requirement for an anti-vandal finish is common.
Illustrations above show detailed finishing of the curtain: internal strengthening and one of many external securing styles that we fit.
